According to research conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, 94% of teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies and materials. This is not a requirement of the job, but with a lack of district funding, these educators do what they deem necessary to fill their classrooms with the essentials children need to feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to learn.
To support the dedication and hard work of teachers across the country, Kaplan Early Learning Company is providing $100K in matching donations on the DonorsChoose platform. Beginning October 1st, 2024, we will double all individual donations on Donors Choose – to projects requesting Kaplan products that provide high-quality educational materials and experiences to classrooms throughout the United States – until we reach our $100K match total.
What is DonorsChoose?
The DonorsChoose platform makes it easy for anyone to support a teacher in need of classroom materials and supplies. Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose, created this online platform after realizing how much money he and his colleagues spent each school year on books, art supplies, and other materials. Through DonorsChoose, teachers can create project requests for anything they need for their classroom. Families, friends, and anyone with a link to the teacher’s project can make a donation toward the funding goal amount.
What DonorsChoose projects is Kaplan Early Learning Company supporting this year?
At Kaplan, access to high-quality educational resources is essential and fosters a lifelong love of learning in young children and adults. Through supportive donations and our $100K match campaign with DonorsChoose projects requesting Kaplan products, this is how we are helping teachers, children, families, and communities throughout the United States:
- Mrs. Meyerhoff’s class will receive a Carolina Storage Center with 25 Cubbies for students to put their amazing stories, artwork, math papers, cultural studies, and word work so that all papers stay neat and organized until they take them home at the end of each day
- Ms. Rodriguez’s class will receive a shipment of Bee-Bots, insect-shaped robots that will introduce her students to coding and STEM concepts in an engaging, hands-on way
- Mrs. Brophy’s class will receive flexible seating stools that give her students the freedom to wiggle and move and improve their ability to focus as they learn
- Mrs. Schmidt’s class will receive a durable Sense of Place Range and Sink that will improve budding math, literacy, and writing skills as the children play collaboratively with one another
- Ms. Gauthier’s class will receive a comfortable classroom rug that will support her students’ emotional well-being and provide a peaceful environment that improves self-regulation throughout the day
